Blimey how a year goes quick in some ways and sooooo not in others! I have been counting the days until this weekend for what feels like a decade. We decided to re visit Abergavenny festival back in feb time and mentioned it to phills mum and glynn and then we found ourself invited to stay at 'the glass house 'near Abergavenny for the weekend of the festival. The weekend fell over phills birthday and our anniversary and was the weekend before our anniversary holiday to india.
It is the sunday eve and we are on our way home, phill is driving as i was sipping cava in the hottub until about two hours ago. Its 9pm and we have a three hour drive before getting home to get sorted for the airport at 7am, typical of us! We will be knackered but at least we will sleep on the flight.
We arrived at the glass house on friday eve and was greeted to a lovely table of nibbles after a dip in the hottub and some prosecco. We had an early ish start sat morn so gone midnight we made it to bed.
The place is gorgeous. We were treated to some naughty treats laid out on our bed from lyn and glynn. The place is massive, easy to have your whole family staying here. We were in our own little annex with lovely bathroom and snug like lounge with large patio doors out to the hot tub.
Saturday morning we left for the festival and went our separate ways post parking up. Phill and i headed straight for the market hall as i had to meet Rick Stein. He was doing a book signing but i just showed him my signed book on the ipad and shook his hand and chatted to him. He was lovely, he was tucking into some fig and masala ice cream....which i had later too and it was so yummy. He seemed a bit nervous and shaky but i like that about him.he was cute, i like him and i was a bit star struck and nervy too. I headed to the hobbs house bakery to pick up phills birthday gift from my mum, a sourdough starter, dough cutter And dough basket.
Phill couldnt resist the lovely little tarts!! So tucked into a millionaire one, i wanted the pear, walnut and lime one but resisted as i actually could have eaten all of them....
Phill tucked into a sausage butty while i had veggie pakoras and bulgar wheat salad and then I had fig and masala ice cream and phill had creme brulee and banana salted caramel.
Phill and i headed to the priory part of the festival for a beer and champagne.. Or two. We perused the stalls and purchased a few things like gourmet popcorn, moroccan almonds, vanilla paste, ham and other bits. At 2pm we were at the angel hotel ballroom for the Brindisa ham school talk and tasting. It was really good and we learnt a fair bit about ham and got a goody bag. We nipped to a book signing to get the book faviken we brought glynn for his birthday signed by magnus and met val warner, nice guy.
We spent the next couple of hours tasting stuff, having some champagne and beer before heading to the priory masterclass. Lyn and glynn joined us for the tapas revolution class from omar allibhoy making rabbit and chicken paella. We were all a bit sleepy by this time. The session was good and i got my book signed and a photo with him, he is rather lion like. He was a lovely guy.
We all headed to a coffee shop to recharge before heading to the castle at half seven for the party. Yes it involved more food and drink!
The evening was great, prosecco, music, dancing, gorgeous weather, candles, yummy food and fireworks. Phill and lyn had crab in a laverbread flatbread thing and it was very tasty and me and glynn headed to the curry tent manned by Mr Todiwala. Cyrus Todiwala made my chicken tikka wrap. Oh yeah, phill also managed a wood fired pizza!
The fireworks were fab and we had a dance to bangra music, drank a bit more and went home. A fab day.
